WHO CAN PLAY BYSA FOOTBALL?
The BYSA Football program offers positions to children from any local towns that do NOT attend U32 (5th grade up). U32 does not offer flag football so children under 5th grade can play on our flag teams. We have had players from Montpelier, Berlin, Northfield, Orange, Randolph, Roxbury, South Royalton, Williamstown, Washington, Waterbury, etc. We work with the players and parents to try to set up car pooling for practices. The VPA jurisdictions are not relevant to our youth football program. Players do NOT need permission from their school to play in our program. It is not school related.
PRACTICES
Practices began August 15th at 5:30pm. The first two weeks of practice are Monday thru Friday. Following that flag will practice Tuesday and Thursday, 5th/6th will practice Monday, Wednesday and Friday and the 7th/8th grade will be Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. If a player cannot attend a practice due to illness, or other reason, the player (in 5/6 or 7/8) MUST contact their head coach. It is essential that coaches know prior to practices/games that a player will be absent.
The Head Coach's are:
Senior Tide (7th/8th): Bob Lamb 518-250-8638
Junior Tide (5th/6th): Brice Mugford 476-4314
Rip Tide (Flag): Charlie Atwood 839-6070
Players must attend practice Monday through Friday for the first two weeks of practice. The practice schedules will be noted in the weekly newsletters.
All practices will take place at the Barre City Elementary & Middle School. We will have practice in the rain. In the event of lightning during practice, we are required to clear the field for 20 minutes. During this 20-minute period we will take shelter. If there is thunder/lightning twice within a 20 minute period the coaches will cancel practice. The players and coaches will remain in the shelter until everyone is picked up. Please remain aware of the weather and arrive at the practice field early when situation such as this are apparent.
VOLUNTEERS
It is time for the annual call for volunteers to begin! It takes a lot of volunteers to keep this program running and we appreciate every single one! Due to the lack of volunteers we have had to go with a new approach this year.
Dee Campeau will be our volunteer coordinator this year. In past years we have NOT had good luck with people volunteering their time so we have decided to change the process.
Dee will have a list of every time we need volunteers this season at the parent meeting on August 15th. If you do not sign up for something Dee will fill in your name for something. We will publish the entire list. If you can not do the slot you were schedule it is your responsibility to find someone to do it for you. Dee will call you the night before the event to remind you. If you do not do your slot or find someone who will you will be required to give the program $20.
It is very unfortunate that we have had to do this, but our small list of volunteers are getting worn down and we will soon run out of them due to over use. Thank you for your help!
