Welcome to the 2011
Season!
This
is going to be a GREAT year! We will
distribute hard copies of the newsletter each week to the players and emailed
copies will go to those on our email list. If you would like to be on the email
list and are not currently receiving emails, please visit our website www.bysafootball.com and sign up to
receive them.
If
you have a Facebook account please
like our BYSA Football page. We will send out brief reminders via Facebook as well.
Schedule
You
will find the full season schedule on the website. Although I would love to say nothing will
change on this schedule, please keep checking the schedule as it will
occasionally change. I will always include the upcoming schedule in the
newsletter. On the backside of this newsletter is the schedule for the next two
weeks.
If
you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. Our jamboree is in
On
September 10 the 5/6 and 7/8 teams will be playing in Newport (night games) and
the flag teams will be playing at home.
What Level Will My Child
Play?
The
7/8 coaches will be taking this week to analyze the players. By the end of the week they will be told if
they are on the JV or varsity Senior Tide team. The playing positions are also
decided by the coaches.
The
flag coaches will be deciding if players will be on A or B. The players will be
told this week. If you are not sure which team your
child will be playing on, please see head coach Charlie Atwood.
Camera Found
After
our equipment distribution the fire department found a camera. If you are
missing a camera please contact Kerri.
Sponsors
Please
notice the logos of our sponsors this year on the back of the newsletter. If
you use their service or stop by their store let them know we appreciate their
help with our program!
If
you know of anyone that would be willing to be a sponsor please contact Kerri
Lamb at 595-2968 or 595-1536.
Game Equipment
The 7/8th
Senior Tide
team will be distributing game jerseys and pants on Monday.
The 5/6th
Junior Tide
team will be distributing game jerseys and pants on Tuesday.
The 1st-4th
Rip Tide
team will be distributing game jerseys and pants on Wednesday.
Coachs Contacts
If
your child will not be attending a practice or a game they must contact their coach to let him know. This is more important in this sport than
others. The coachs phone numbers are on
the website and will appear at the bottom of each newsletter. Below you will
find the contact numbers for the coaches.
Senior
Tide (7th/8th): Bob Lamb 595-1536
Junior
Tide (5th/6th): Brice Mugford
476-4314
Rip Tide (Flag): Charlie Atwood 839-6070
Administrative
Issues: Kerri Lamb 595-2968
Coaches
We
encourage parents to stay and watch practices.
However, anyone on the field giving advice to players must be a
certified coach. If any parent is
interested in becoming certified please let Kerri know (595-2968). This is for the safety of our players.
Jamboree
On
the back of this newsletter you will find information about the jamboree for
this weekend. The game schedule is next to the map.
Please
notice the area on the map listed as BYSA Tents. This is our meeting area. BYSA will set up its
canopies by the baseball field backstop. Look for our sign.
Please
bring your player directly to that area to check in with us. This will be our main base for the day. We will have water, canopies and basic first
aid kits available in our area.
You may want to arrive
early for good parking. There are about
1,700 football players in the jamboree which means there are a lot of vehicles.
Car pooling is promoted for this event.
We would like all players to arrive at the
Milton field by 7:30am. We will have a photographer there to take team and
individual pictures at that time. There are concessions available that is a
fundraiser for the Milton youth football program.

Dehydration
Each year at the jamboree we have at least
one player who becomes dehydrated.
Please pay close attention to the following suggestions:
1. Players
should drink at least 24 oz. of liquid (water or sports drinks) prior to
starting any game and 16 oz. between each game.
2. Between
games players should REMOVE their game uniform and remain in shorts and
t-shirt. This is important because our
game uniforms are dark colors which help in the colder months (and laundering)
but are not good for warm weather.
3. Although
coaches have the best interest of every child in mind, they have a lot going on
and many things to watch. They will
consistently tell players to drink, but please reinforce and watch the player
to ensure they do drink.
4. The
more dehydrated the body is the LESS a player may want to drink. They wont necessarily feel thirsty.
5. If
a player starts acting oddly (staring off a lot,
not responding quickly to questions) please have one of the many medical
professionals at the jamboree look at him.
They may feel sick to their stomach, dizzy or have a headache. Sometimes a headache is the first sign.
If a player becomes dehydrated get them in a
shady area, strip them to shorts and t-shirt, place a wet towel over their head
to cool them down and encourage them to drink, and drink and drink!
Jamboree Hydration Plan
Please use free time to
reenergize under the canopy, or watch the games of the teams you will be
playing this season. We encourage parents to bring additional canopies. We do
have one.
A concession stand selling
breakfast and lunch is provided. Players and parents should plan on packing a
lunch and snacks, if they do not want to buy from the concession stand. We have
seen problems with players having time to wait through the line AND eat between
games. Milton is working on that issue, be we encourage players to eat healthy throughout
the day and to stay hydrated.
If
the schedule changes prior to Saturday a new schedule will be distributed!
We do not set this schedule, the league does.

Moms Tip
We
had a mom submit a tip that everyone may find useful. After a long, hard, wet practice
or game, firmly fill cleats with crinkled newspaper overnight. Usually they
will be dry and odor free the next morning. If they arent odor free a shake or
two of Arm and Hammer baking soda will do the trick! If you would like to submit a tip please
contact Kerri.
.Raffle Tickets
Last
Friday was the deadline to submit your 20 required raffle tickets. If you have
not yet handed yours in, please do so. We will begin calling players mid-week
that have not yet submitted their tickets. These are an extremely important
fund raiser for our program. You may continue to sell additional tickets until
the last week of October.
The
tickets are only $1.00 each and every cent goes back into our BYSA
program. Each team in our league had
something donated so there are several very nice prizes. They are well worth
the $1 contribution. Kerri Lamb will be the coordinator for the raffle. Please
write the players name at the top of the booklet so that we know who submitted
them. If you would like more we have them at the shed.
COMPLAINT PROCEDURE
Under no
circumstances should players view, or overhear adults quarreling over BYSA
Youth Football issues.
The following is the complaint process. Please always follow these steps. If a
step is skipped the complaint will not be heard.
1.
PARENT REPRESENTATIVE: Report concern to
their parent representative for grade level.
a.
The
Parent Representative will be presented to the parents at each parent meeting
and their contact information will be in each newsletter. The Parent Representatives
are the contact between the parents and the coaches, coordinators, board, etc.
b.
The
Parent Representatives will be determined by the head coach and may not be the
head coachs spouse.
c.
The
head coach will select the parent representative in the 2nd or 3rd
week of practice.
2.
HEAD COACH: If satisfaction is
not reached, the parent may then speak with the head coach (OFF OF THE FIELD
ONLY)
3.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
If satisfaction is not reached, the parent
may then speak with the Board of Directors
4.
BYSA BOARD OF
DIRECTORS:
If satisfaction is not met, the parent may
then speak with the BYSA Board of Directors.
ZERO TOLERANCE RULE
At
no time may parents or coaches act inappropriately at games or practices. Upon the first occurrence a warning will be
given by a board member. Upon the second
occurrence the offender must leave the field until the game or practice is
over. If this occurs again within the
season, the board may vote not to allow the offender to return to the field for
a period of time.
Asthma Inhalers
Many
children have asthma. If you would like
an inhaler on the field with your child, please place his name on the inhaler
and give it to his/her coach. We can
keep it in the storage shed so that it is available to him or s/he can take it
home each night. Please be sure the
coach knows what you would like us to do.
